DVLs (Doppler Velocity Logs) rely on the speed of sound in water to determine a vehicle's speed over ground. However, speed of sound can differ with temperature and density (which depends on salinity and depth). To account for this, it is crucial that the DVL has access to accurate and constantly updating temperature and pressure readings from integrated temperature and pressure sensors.
