Gold Coast, Australia
GC Coastal Oceanography Hackdays
Do you have hydrographic or oceanographic data you would like to process, visualise, or analyse?
Nortek and Griffith University have partnered to deliver a free 2-day event on the Gold Coast, bringing together scientists, industry, and government professionals working with ocean data.
When registering, please specify if you would like to join us for one day or both days of the event.
Event location: Griffith University, Gold Coast campus, G51, room 1.03
The agenda
Acknowledgement of country and kick-off
Guilherme Vieira da Silva (Griffith University) and Nery Neto (Nortek)
Coastal Dynamics and Management Research Group recent works
Guilherme Vieira da Silva (Griffith University)
Senior research fellow with PhD in sediment transport. His research is focused on understanding how waves, currents and tides shape the coastline at different timescales.
Nortek products over different time and spatial scales
Rowan Tesch (Nortek)
Sales Engineer at Nortek Australia, supporting oceanographic projects across Australia and New Zealand. With a background in Marine and Antarctic Science, I work closely with researchers and industry partners to integrate ADCP solutions into their field programs. Based in Hobart, I provide sales support, technical guidance, and instrument servicing to Nortek users in the region.
Nortek Innovation
Nery Neto (Nortek)
PhD in Oceanography/Coastal Engineering focusing on meteoceanographic data analysis, sediment dynamics and hydrodynamics, Senior Oceanography Advisor at Nortek.
Morning tea (provided)
The messy world of fieldwork
Robert Rohaan (Water Technology)
Robert is a Coastal Engineer with experience in physical and numerical modelling, hydrographic data collection and geohydrological engineering. He currently works as a coastal engineer at Water Technology (AU) and has previously worked as a coastal engineer, coastal researcher, physical modeller, geohydrologist and hydrographic surveyor. Having worked in a broad range of knowledge fields, spanning 4 continents Robert gained a good understanding of multi-disciplinary measurement and monitoring campaigns. He has a sound understanding of collection, processing, and interpretation of field, physical and numerical modelling data.
Surf zone monitoring at the Palm Beach artificial reef
Heiko Loehr (Blue Coast Consulting)
Heiko loves combining theory, practical understanding and computer science to tackle the most complex technical challenges.
Lunch (provided)
From Storm to Strategy: Coastal Monitoring and Insights at the City of Gold Coast
Beau Javerning (City of Gold Coast)
Beau Javernig is a Coastal Engineer with the City of Gold Coast, specializing in coastal monitoring and data analysis. His work focusses on integrating survey and metocean measurements into practical engineering solutions for both day-to-day operations and future projects, encompassing modelling and long term resilience planning. Recently, Beau has been involved in post-TC Alfred data collection, leveraging these insights to inform smarter coastal strategies.
