Nortek hosts first major VM Workshop in Argentina, bringing together key players in marine science and industry
- Company & product news
The event represented Nortek’s first large-scale initiative in the country, bringing together professionals from marine science, industry, and government to explore advances in vessel-mounted ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) technologies.
A strategic event to strengthen regional connections
The workshop was designed to connect both existing and potential users of Nortek’s ADCP solutions, particularly those working in sectors where marine data is critical. Represented industries included ports, dredging, energy, government research and academia. A key objective of the event was also to deepen collaboration with the Argentine Navy, which received its own exclusive session dedicated to operational use cases and future partnership opportunities.
Central to the program were presentations and hands-on activities focused on the use of vessel-mounted ADCP systems, with a strong emphasis on Nortek’s VM Coastal system for flow and sediment transport studies.
Hands-on demonstration: a workshop highlight
Among the two days of presentations, discussions, and networking, the practical demonstration of the VM Coastal system stood out as the workshop’s defining moment. Favorable conditions along the Buenos Aires coastline allowed participants to observe real-time measurements of flow rates and sediment transport, which was an area of particular interest for many of the attending organizations.
The live session demonstrated not only the technical capabilities of Nortek’s vessel-mounted technologies but also their value for local research, operational planning, and marine infrastructure monitoring.
For the Argentine Navy, the workshop represented a meaningful step forward. The tailored session offered to them reinforced Nortek’s commitment to long-term cooperation and paving the way for the integration of a VM system into future projects.
A strong foundation for Nortek’s expansion in Argentina
Participants widely recognized the workshop as a significant moment for the region’s marine science and technology community. For Nortek, the successful gathering demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting local initiatives and strengthening relationships with both scientific and industrial sectors.
“This was our first major undertaking in Argentina, bringing together key actors from marine science and industry,” noted Alex Lobos, Nortek’s Business Development Manager for South America. “We were able to show that Nortek is here, ready to support, collaborate, and add value to their projects.”
The momentum generated during Nortek’s VM Workshop Argentina 2026 is expected to fuel new partnerships, research opportunities, and technology adoption across the country’s marine and coastal sectors.
Experts, technical partners, and a collaborative effort
The workshop was organized and led by Nortek’s local coordinator Alex Lobos, who delivered presentations alongside Pedro Pacheco from the Nortek Brazil team. Pacheco was also responsible for conducting the highly anticipated practical demonstration on the water.
Support for the event came from Ingenieros Electrónicos Asociados, a local integration partner working closely with Nortek to expand its presence in the Argentine market. The Marine Sciences School of the Argentina Navy contributed significantly by hosting the event and providing a vessel for the live demo.
