Texel, The Netherlands - A celebratory milestone for marine science was marked as Queen Máxima of the Netherlands christened the new research vessel, Anne Weber-van Bosse, of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). The ship is equipped with four Nortek systems for oceanographic research.

The Queen arrived on Texel by boat, where she was welcomed by Texel's mayor, Mark Pol, and NIOZ director Hans Dolman. After  the christening and formal naming ceremony, she received a quided tour of the nearly 80-meter vessel, where she was joined by oceanographers who will use the vessel for their research.

The new research ship will enable oceanographers to conduct studies from the sea surface to the deep ocean, across environments ranging from the polar regions to the tropics. The ship represents a major technological step forward for oceanographic research, and is equipped with four Nortek VM Coastal and VM Ocean systems (500 kHz, 250 kHz, 100 kHz, and a 75/55 kHz) providing extensive capabilities for current profiling and high-resolution marine measurements.

The event drew significant public and media interest, underscoring the importance of the vessel for future North Sea and open-ocean research missions.
