Hosting a cleanup near Nortek HQ outside Oslo

Nortek recently held a beach cleanup on the beaches of Kadettangen and Kalvøya outside of Oslo. The two beaches, connected by a pedestrian suspension bridge for access to the island of Kalvøya, are popular recreation areas outside of the city, frequented by families, swimmers, and picnickers alike.

On May 7, 2026, more than 20 Nortek employees met to gather trash on these popular beaches. In just a few hours, the team gathered almost 70 kg (~150 lbs) of trash in and around the beaches.

“It was very inspiring to see people work together to improve our community, and to see how much of an impact an initiative like this can have on our environment,” says Lars Vigeland, Marketing Assistant at Nortek who helped collect waste at the event. “Hopefully this can inspire others as well to help protect and shield our oceans and environment.”

Additional efforts from Nortek Netherlands and in Scotland

The Nortek Netherlands team hosted a cleanup of their own on the same day, bringing together nearly a dozen Nortek Netherlands employees to clean up the areas near their office in Hoofddorp.

The Netherlands team not only cleaned up waste around their office building, they made use of a small raft to collect waste from the waterways, pulling out a shopping cart and other items.

Additionally, Nortek's Luke Evans, who recently relocated back to Orkney, Scotland, carried out a beach cleanup at Yesnaby on the west coast of mainland Orkney. The cleanup focused on a small cove along the coastline, where powerful North Atlantic swells carry significant marine debris onshore. During his cleanup, he gathered almost 100 kg of waste, including tires, ropes, and plastic.

"Protecting the marine environment is a responsibility we all share," says Evans. "By taking part in this cleanup, I wanted to make a tangible contribution to preserving the natural environment while supporting Nortek's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship."

General Oceans collaboration

Nortek’s beach cleanup was part of a coordinated effort from the General Oceans sister companies to honor World Oceans Day on June 8th. Each sister company held a cleanup in the past several weeks, spreading the cleanup efforts to multiple corners of the globe.

The beach cleanup also contributed to one of Nortek’s primary sustainability goals to support healthier oceans. Each beach cleanup effort prevents plastic and other pollution from ending up in the ocean, and the Nortek team is proud to contribute.
