Key changes in design and performance
Design changes, built for flexibility:
- Smaller form factor, greater flexibility
- The Generation 2 Vector is significantly smaller than the legacy Vector, enabling more flexibility in deployments in areas previously inaccessible to the Vector.
- Streamlined probe design
- The traditional rigid stem of the legacy Vector has been removed, as the smaller design no longer requires separation of the housing from the probe to avoid flow disturbance.
- Power options that fit your project
- The Generation 2 Vector does not include room for internal batteries, but is instead compatible with several external battery canisters including both a small Vector-specific battery canister and other preexisting Nortek battery canisters.
- Smarter connectivity
- The Generation 2 Vector includes an interface box allowing the instrument to communicate via both Ethernet and serial (RS-422) using a single cable.
- Visual sampling indicator
- Following Nortek’s tradition, the Generation 2 Vector now offers an LED which blinks at the user-defined sampling rate to indicate the instrument is collecting data.
Performance changes, engineered for results:
- Updated electronics for better performance
- Modern electronics and broadband processing offer improved per-ping precision and improved noise immunity, lowering power consumption for a given deployment.
- Lower power consumption, longer deployments
- Longer deployments are now possible thanks to lowered power consumption and the option for up to 512 GB of internal memory.
- Echosounder capabilities for additional insight
- A short-range echosounder has been added to the Generation 2 Vector on the central beam, enabling users to image structures in the water column. This is especially useful to those investigating sediment transport or changes in bottom morphology.
User-friendly Nortek Deployment software
The Generation 2 Vector is configured using Nortek Deployment, Nortek’s new web-based deployment and setup software. This modern software replaces the legacy Vector interface and provides a streamlined, user-friendly experience across all current-generation Nortek instruments.
